Having just moved to a tiny cabin overlooking the sea, and surrounded by native forest, I can attest from personal experience that there really is something very, very relaxing, indeed almost soporific, about living high up amongst trees. Trees really know how to seem to be doing nothing.

Even though trees are actually ferociously manufacturing wood, (and more and more and more of it) they make you feel like really they are doing nothing but existing, and in turn it makes you feel like doing nothing but existing too.

Here is a wonderful place to sleep soundly… suspended high among the treetops, shielded from weather by the wood that has been manufactured outside by the surrounding forest.

Maybe a little reading can be done before falling…. zzzz….zzzz….

The library downstairs affords plenty of books to indulge in long days of reading…

Another treehouse by the same company offers respite for four, providing for food and rest in one tiny space.

You can see just how very tiny the space is, with this view, from the beds, out the door.

The exterior of this one has a little more “forest gnome” look than the book reader’s tree house. Both are from Treehouse Point, which specializes in supplying unusual accommodations for travelers who “seek comfort and style in friendly and natural surroundings.” The tree houses all feature handmade beds, vintage furnishings and original art.

There is nothing more of an ugly in-the-way nuisance than a stack of chairs, waiting to be separated and used. You practically have to hide them away at all other times, and who has the space to spare for that? Wouldn’t it be a great idea to design stackable chairs so that you could store things on them when they are not in use as chairs?

Well now, from Spanish design studio Mr. Simon, here is a very ingenious chair stacking design that is actually engineered to support the storage that is needed when they are not functioning as chairs, so that they can become a useful side table when they are not chairs:

What is more, this “table” is actually ok-looking in its own right – it in no way hints that it is a really just some sorry stack of chairs just waiting for occasional guests.

Up close, the interesting wood treatment declares the surface as a table. The Cóm-oda chair, launched during the Valencia Disseny Week 2011 last week was featured at Freshome.

About the design studio:

Mr. Simon is a character made up of all the ideas and efforts of the members of the team. He is the one in charge; he makes all the decisions and determines what’s on. Mr. Simon focuses his efforts exclusively on developing graphic and product design projects, working with professionals from other disciplines if the project requires it.

Its aim is to carry out projects based on a solid concept, considering that aesthetics are also important. Giving a simple and synthetic approach, continuous research is crucial to produce a good design. Mr. Simon uses experimentation as a tool to explore new forms of communication.

The outside of the exclusive resort Singita Boulders Lodge is the perfect picture of rustic African calm. Sabi Sand Reserve offers a spectacular African safari experience, allowing you lots of chances to see the plentiful game, by partaking in exciting game drives with open safari Land Rovers.

A peaceful bath, overlooking the savannah makes a great finale after a hot day outdoors watching lion cubs roll in the yellow African dust. And now into the lobby for a quiet read…

Woah! Now we’re getting into some jolly little eclecticism here! Offsetting the extremely rustic setting: that is one exuberant candelabra! And all those busy reds! You are going to have to go outside to cool off!

Sigh… So. Just how exclusive is this? Well, if you want to bring the kids, forget it. Or, you can bring them, but only if you book the entire place. Your nasty brats might bother the other guests.

Here’s the most luxurious home away from home you could imagine.

The Opera camper was originally conceived 4 years ago. The first prototype was a far cry from this superbly elegant camper, but it held the basic idea.

A camper that could be towed behind a car in a folded-down position so that all the heavy weight of a trailer is greatly reduced. Only the built-in waist-high appliances, things like the elegant fridge to stock your pricey champagne are supported.

The rest all opens out as a cotton canvass tent.

Incorporating fixtures not usually seen in camping homes away from home…

…Dutch design firm YSIN evolved the traditional camper into a luxury good, as far from campers now as a luxury yacht is from a dinghy.

YSIN worked with Enthoven Associates Design Consultancy in Antwerp on the production model.

They helped evolve the way the tent opens up.

The finished shape suggests the shape of the Sydney Opera House, and hence, the name, the Opera Camper. A camper for those who don’t like ants in their sandwiches…

Chopsticks are a symbol of tradition, culture and an unique way of life that has evolved under its own special norms. Those who have tried it for the first time will vouch for the fact that using chopsticks to eat is no kids play and it requires skills – though not as the ancient Chinese warriors who used them as weapons!

Modern world is full of various models of the traditional chopsticks, and after searching the breadth of the planet here are 11 greatest chopsticks of all time.

Chork

We start our journey into the incredible chopstick world with Chork; a hybrid of the chopstick and the fork. Chork is designed for those who cannot use chopsticks elegantly and for those who cannot bring food from bowl to mouth using the sticks. Designed by Slashfood, chork allows you to stuff a lot faster than the traditional chopstick and with far less handling skill. Made out of wood, there is no chance of getting injured with pointed steel edges too.

Three-Legged Chopsticks

Released by the MoMAstore, the three-legged chopsticks are created to ensure that the use of the eastern equipment merges well with the western culinary delights on your plate. Of course, the three pieces of sticks that are put together ensure that you need not hold them tight at the top and hence make you ungainly use them a lot more graceful. Available for $28, this is another design created to hide our fumbling fingers!

Collapsible Chopsticks

Designed by the wicked folks from ThinkGeek, the $ 24.99 Collapsible Chopsticks could be easily confused with the equipment of a top billiards star. The stylishly designed grips and business ends of these chopsticks unscrew for easy cleaning and packing, offering you comfort while on the move. If you love your noodles and sushi, then these are an absolute must for you!

TUKAANI

Crafted by Lincoln Kayiwa with a stroke of inspiration borrowed from the Toucan bird’s bill, TUKAANI imitates evolution to offer you the chopsticks with perfect grip. These curved silver chopsticks may not be to the liking of those who love wooden ones, but these TUKAANI looks like it has been designed for the aristocrats who do not know how to use chopsticks, yet would prefer to pretend that they know it all. For us though, it looks like a bent safety pin without its head!

Stix Glasses

This is one unique concept that requires you to be as resourceful as you can as the Stix Glasses designed Brad Gressel requires you to use the arms of your spectacles as chopsticks. Just like some people keep pens and pencils behind their ear; you can stick your chopsticks there. One problem with this though is that you better have damn clean ears or your sushi will taste pretty yucky. Yeah, you can wash them and use them when required, but this still looks like an idea limited to those who use spectacles all the time.

ECO POKE MAI

Masato Tokuno has probably crafted the most attractive, colorful and sleek chopsticks with the ECO PAKE MAI collection. From the name, shades and packaging, it seems quite obvious that this is aimed for kids and adults who are still young at heart (Much like us!) Available from YUEN’TO in 12 various colors, these look damn cute, stylish and come with their own transparent case. Tiny delights indeed!

Mater Angle Chopsticks

In case you are looking for James Bond- like sophistication, sleek ergonomic design and futuristic style, all clubbed in a single chopstick design, then look no beyond the Mater Angle chopsticks. These are so cool that they are complimented by their very own nesting block! Available for $35, these are perfect the next time you are having an official business lunch at a Chinese restaurant and trying to negotiate a big contract. Mater Angle chopsticks will surely tip the deal over in your favor.

Edible Chopsticks… along with bowls

Designer Nobuhiko Arikawa seems to have turned the whole concept for using chopsticks for eating upside down with his edible line of tableware for Orto Cafe in Japan. The edible chopsticks are made out of flour, water and salt along with matching bowls and once you have finished eating your favorite sushi in them, you can eat the chopsticks as well. This is one design that leaves no waste behind

Restless

That looks more like the title of a sound track to us, but these very craftily styled chopsticks by Mikiya Kobayashi follow a very special design that ensures that the tips of the chopstick never touch the table. Such is the balance and weight distribution that your chopstick tips always remain in air and sparkling clean. For those who are crazy about hygiene, this is a welcome sight. Available in Black, Mustard, Red, and Off-White, they are all about keeping your fingers restless.

Brunton Flip Sticks

These special foldable chopsticks by Brunton serve more than just one purpose. They are easy to carry, fold up without poking pointy edges and also save up on the use of bamboo and wood. While the half of the chopstick that is in contact with the food is wooden, the top handle is metal. Hence you can discard the wooden part after a dinner and use another one later, if you chose to do so. Priced at $33, they are not the most comfortable to hole, but are great for travel.

TrippStixx

The makers of TrippStixx claim that these chopsticks took 3000 years in the making and while we get the point of it, how come it took so many smart people 3000 years to get chopsticks right? Apart from that, the specially crafted sticks are customizable, sport precision attachments and with one handle and two interchangeable tips, this is all about taking the chopstick experience a couple of notches up. The separate Banquet Style and Sushi Style almost make you feel that eating is a rare art form!

So, if though that chopsticks were boring, dull and monotonous, then think again. There are so many exciting varieties out there that your fingers can never get enough. So next time you pick up noodles, sushi or anything Chinese how about think a bit out of the bowl?

Tukaani is a chopstick for the uncoordinated. It is designed to making eating with chopsticks a lot easier and a lot less embarrassing for those who can’t use the traditional ones. They are sterling silver and dishwasher safe, so you can keep them instead of throwing them out when finished eating. They also look pretty nice sitting out on your table.

What makes Tukaani so cool is the shape and the user friendly aspect of them. The shape and matt surface gives you a steady even grip in the hand. They remind us of a bent safety pin that is missing the clasp. But the true inspiration came from the bill of a Toucan. Eat with pride and ease with the Tukaani. Contact Kayiawa to get yours.

Get ready for a party under the big top with this lounge. The Behive Lounge, beautifully designed by Dirk Wynants, is like the VIP section at some luxurious club or party. It makes sure every guest is enjoying laid back, sitting, or standing comfort. With a shape and fabric based largely on a trampoline, it “floats” 60 cm above the ground and has suspender surrounds for support. The fabric draped lounge gives the option of total privacy or full view and the side cushions give relaxing comfort.

The Behive has a 4 meter diameter, and a corral table in the middle. It is large enough for 12 people to enjoy it comfortably. No need for candles with this outdoor lounge, it boasts an impressive overhead light of its own. Invite all your friends over, every night’s a party with the Beehive Lounge, finally a clubhouse for adults .
Whether you are in the market for a sideboard or not, the Ludwig will make you find a place for it. The sideboard is the essence of simplicity and functionality. The Ludwig has no unnecessary details, everything on and in it has a use. Using a Dual Flap system, in one seamless movement the front panel tilts down & retracts while the top edge lifts up to reveal the interior. This is one super cool, sideboard .

The back light and interior lighting emphasizes the beauty and shape of the Ludwig. It seems to draw your eyes straight to it, almost beckoning you to touch it . It appears to be one large compartment, but upon closer examination it has thin chrome frames plus transparent glass drawers and shelves. The top and door have 9 available finishes to choose from and is available in 2 versions; Basic (white matte) and Plus(combination of shiny stainless steel and chrome), so it can be matched to almost any design. See more images of the different versions and finishes at Architonic.
