Checking in at the new Yotel designed by London architects Softroom and New York studio Rockwell Group is a stylish event. Overhead a purple electronic ticker provides up-to-the-minute information on weather reports, news and Yotel events and information.

The sleek floor is white polished concrete, a finish more often associated with contemporary art galleries.

Visitors at the New York Yotel that just opened in the vibrant theatre district of Manhattan are able to check in their extra bags at any time at these computerised kiosks – where their luggage is stored or retrieved by a giant robotic arm.

Guests arriving early, or wishing to deposit their bags for the hours between check-out and final departure are able to entrust their belongings to the power and security of Yobot – a giant white robot arm.

Amusingly, this spectacle is visible from outside, making this distinctive robot butler service a theatrically lit feature revealed through a huge window onto the lobby and through to the street outside. When not thus occupied, this robotic butler is free to cavort freestyle for the gawkers on the street.

But the real service is the design. When Yo! Sushi restaurant magnate Simon Woodroffe’s first Yotel opened at London’s Gatwick airport in 2007 it earned raves from users: “Cool stuff and those colours make it look cozy, yet pretty modern and hip.”

Another comment: “I was very impressed. The rooms make the most of the limited space available and the stylish interior of the cabin makes the room feel cosy, light and airy.”

While the bedrooms are as serene and elegant as you need for relaxed sleep, the public spaces are also designed to make a hip yet comfortable style statement too. Yotel is trying for a look of affordable luxury, by creating technologically sophisticated and vibrant spaces.

A variety of public meeting spaces are spread throughout the surprisingly large space in notoriously cramped Manhattan, at over 17,000 square feet covering the entire  the 4th floor. In a city renowned for its ‘lobby culture’, Manhattanites enjoy hotels as a place to see and be seen.

These public spaces spread through the entire fourth floor can be large or small, quiet and intimate, or loud and stylish.

The bathrooms are just as well thought-out and easily modern and elegant as the rest of the Yotel.

Unlike the first Yotels, which were conceptualized as simple sleeping cubicles, larger suites are also incorporated into the design offering.

But the bottom line at the New York Yotel, as it is in the previous Yotels at airports: quick access to a good night’s sleep, much needed after a long flight.

First Yotel Opens in New York City

Architect Miguel Angel Lacomba made this house constructed of white sandstone as clean and simple as possible, to meet a client brief that put clarity at the top of the wish list.

The result is a vacation home on the island of Mallorca with beautiful clean lines, using sandstone, a soft white limestone, with the stark white of the sandstone cleanly offset by the brown of the wood for the shutters that completely open the walls of the rooms to the sun and the air.

Stark, bold shapes serve to define the bathroom as an adjunct to a simple, comfortable and elegant bedroom at the very center of the house, with a restricted minimal color palette of white and browns.

With well-placed clerestory windows on all of the North-facing, and huge open walls to the South the interiors are filled with light and filtered light.

The simple restricted palette of white set off by the richness of the brown wood extends to the stairway at the center of the house.

The whole residence is reflected in the turquoise of the pool outside the entirely brown and white house, adding a third color for relief beyond this gorgeous Mallorcan house.

Clean Cut White Sandstone Home in Mallorca

exactly, but it certainly calls for alertness and attention in putting together the night’s meal after a day at the office. It will serve to keep a tired commuter awake long enough to make something wholesome to eat.

Performing the day’s ablutions organized by these cooling and refreshing limes would be a joy.

Time to relax. Throughout , these clear and ringing colors control and organize the day’s decisions to keep you from getting off track.

This soothing deep purple signals that the day is nearly over.  This part of the house is for quiet talks as the day closes.

Suppose Design Uses Color to Keep Control

Las Vegas’ Hard Rock resort is freshly remodeled and ready to accommodate its VIP guests. The new modern design of the hotel is made by Mark Tracy of Las Vegas-based design studio Chemical Spaces. The re-designed one-of-a-kind pool suites aim at the young, hip and music-oriented people, so Chemical Spaces created four unique pool suites with their own separate theme. [via]

* Miami Blue Suite

The Miami Blue Suite is “the party suite” – hip and modern, in white and neon blue. Its luxurious features include a giant C-shaped bed, a solid-surface DJ table, a wall of turntables and jam boxes, custom designed furniture and custom Swedish rug.

* Gorilla Suite

Gorilla Suite is a darker urban remake on a cigar bar. The most notable thing about the Gorilla Suite is the paneling – Wenge wood, cut into various shapes with metal features plus metallic-silver porcelain wall tiles. The custom croc-skin furniture, the bronze mirrored ceilings and the hand-painted walls make this suite extremely savage.

* Punk Rock Suite

This London-style, bold punk suite offers bands of recessed mirrors, hand-painted lines and walls, grey wall paneling, black hardwood floors, custom furniture (of course), and a custom hand-made Union Flag rug. Filled with action, the Punk Rock Suite well deserves its name.

* Tree Line Suite

The design of this modern suite revolves around “the tree concept” – starting from the illusion of a two-story tree line in the center, the designers built the rest of the interior around this motif. The nature-theme is completed by the cream-colored textured wall panels, while the deep blue ceiling with hand-painted smoke, leaves and skulls, reminds us it’s still a party suite.

Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas VIP Only Pool Suites

55 Blair Road Project is a beautiful example on how an old house can turn into something incredibly modern and jaw-dropping. The renovated and restored art deco style  house in Singapore was too dark for its owner, so he turned to Ong & Ong Architects for help. The design team came up with the idea of a light open plan contemporary home that brings nature and modern living under one roof, which is quite unusual for terrace houses. The result however is amazing: a spatial experience that charms the senses and the soul.

55 Blair Project: the wonder of home renovation

The  German architect Thomas Bendel has created an extraordinary house. This gorgeous bathroom is directly adjacent to the exterior of the House with a screen that allows you to look out while protecting the privacy of the bather against anyone looking in.

Wrapping the front and side, this tubular house shell is made of precast concrete, while the facade and the back of the house are made of glass and black anodized aluminum.

In the guest rooms a highly polished floor is introduced, in which the landscape is reflected.

There is a view of the hilly landscape from the back of the house.

Wall to wall closets define the space in the living room. Appearing as a blank wall, the  uniform-seeming surface is actually closets rhythmically intersected by black oak joints.

The interior includes a minimalists steel handrail, which climbs the long staircase and wraps around to elegantly turn into the balustrade above.

Sleek Interiors Define Bold Haus

This beautiful luxury home in Mallorca is a work of London-based interior designer Julia Palmer and was recently completed. The villa, along with the gardens, occupies a plot of 5,700 sq. ft. and offers a breathtaking 180 degree view over the bay. To create this modern interior, Palmer used renowned brands in home design such as Kettel, Roche Bobois, Cattelan Italia, Few & Far, Louis Poulsen, and Bespoke furniture, to name just a few. She chose a neutral color scheme to create a calm and serene atmosphere, in accordance with the tranquil mood of the region. The owners loved the result for sure!

MooMoo Architects – fine design from Poland

When architects design a home for themselves, it’s always spectacular. Take a look at what architects Alastair Townsend and Kayoko Ohtsuki of BAKOKO Design & Development have done with this small 400 sq. ft. apartment on the outskirts of Tokyo. Guided by the idea of a clean, bright, modern home that serves as a place to work and a place to rest, Townsend and Ohtsuki created this modern-minimal flat with an optimum use of space. What makes the Matsudo mansion really unique are the small luxurious details – things such as the tatami mat rest area, the Hinoki wood decking in the bathroom and the kitchen’s overhead garden make this contemporary home stand out.
