From dmvA Aitecten here is yet another colorful new way to hide the kitchen in plain sight behind a folding wall.

An elegant dining and entertaining room turns out to be the kitchen itself. Just slide the panels to the side.

But another way of making a kitchen disapear is to slide the entire thing up and down, as we covered in Green Transformer Furniture here. To cook, you’d take out the ingredients you will be using, then slide the entire cabinet up on automated sliders.

Once the the entire kitchen cabinet is up in its workspace configuration, you can cook and wash up.

When you finish cooking, clean up and slide it down closed. The sink faucets can slide up into an empty space hidden in the cabinet above, and there is a small space recessed into the top cabinets above the stove burners.

Don’t have that much free wall space? Here’s an even tinier kitchen that we covered last year.

It is simply a cabinet hidden in a frame when not in use. To cook and wash up, simply slide it out and the push-down faucet pops up, ready for use. Pots and pans are stored underneath, and the black slide-out drawer holds plates as well as cutlery.

When you need to cook, the stove with a ceramic cooktop just slides out of the end of the cabinet. Each of these clever hidden kitchens makes it possible to live well in smaller spaces. And with more and more of us on this planet, we’ll need to!

Amazing ISOLA Linear Kitchen by TOYO Kitchen & Living

German kitchen manufacturer Warendorf (former Miele DIE KUCHE) chose Philippe Starck to design their first kitchen line.  Four new designer kitchens have been introduced under the new brand name. “The Library” aims to reinforce the connection between culture and food, “The Primary” offers some yellow neobaroque aesthetics, “The Duality” is accessible from two sides and “The Tower” rotates through 360° to deliver a brand new kitchen experience. All of them offer fabulous design and show that the combination beautiful – functional is not an oxymoron. The four kitchens are complemented by matching dining tables with shiny chrome trumpet shaped feet. [via]

Take these points into consideration when making the big choice:

1) What’s the temperature and humidity level like where you live? In some very humid climates stainless steel holds up better than other types of appliances that have the tendency to corrode.

2) How likely are you to be frustrated by fingerprints and streaks? Stainless steel appliances show fingerprints, grease and smudges much more easily than white appliances. On the other hand, owners of stainless steel stoves report that they clean up easily, sometimes more easily than their white counterparts.

3) How design conscious are you? Because stainless steel and granite countertops have become ubiquitous in standard tract homes across the country, they are not likely to remain in vogue for long. Within a few years, stainless steel appliances may scream 2002, and you may not want to send that message.

4) Do you have children? Stainless steel tends to dent and it can scratch. It can also be noisy if it is not properly stabilized on an appliance.

5) Will stainless steel fit with your kitchen aesthetic? Stainless steel is sleek, urban, industrial and commercial-looking. It may look out of place in a rustic country kitchen or in a retro-style kitchen. Most customers seem to prefer stainless steel with dark wood and warmer cabinet colors, although in truth, stainless steel usually looks good with any cabinet color, as long as there is warmth somewhere in the kitchen. Paring stainless steel with high-gloss lacquer cabinets will make a kitchen feel ultra high-tech and colder.

6) Will you be able to get the same stainless steel for all your appliances? There are different kinds of stainless steel. The stainless steel on your refrigerator should match that of your stove, microwave and dishwasher. Check out the stainless steel carefully on the appliances you want to buy to be sure the pattern and handles match.

7) Are you replacing only one appliance? If so, your one stainless steel appliance is likely to stick out if it is combined with white or colored appliances. Stainless steel usually blends better with black appliances.

Design Dilemma: Stainless Steel Vs. White

This practical and simple energy efficient dish washer/dish storage unit by design students Schwartz and Steiner at the Bauaus Universität Weimar is a great example of the simple tech that the world needs now.

It is a reduction of a machine to its essentials, orientated to user-needs. This dish washer builds on the movements that we already make…

First:

We need to clear the table of dishes after eating, so; at the table we would just stack the dishes right into these racks, then we carry the racks to the sink…

…then just lower the dishwasher lid to create the (let’s hope it’s water tight) simplest dish washer imaginable – to give the dishes a wash.

(Note the real simple propeller at the top of the lid; this must use very little energy use to run.)

Now remove the lid – take the rack back out of the sink and hang it on the wall. Let the air dry it.

Here’s the wall hook thingie… I like the concrete wall by contrast with this red and white plastic.

Now you can do something useful with your life till the next time you use this.

This is design that respects the users time. There’s no need for a 30 page manual in 12 languages to do 3001 pointless things with a gizmo that you don’t have time to do anyway. It’s simple.

Technology does not have to be a time sink. Or an energy hog.

They are a Japanese company which have proved to be very popular amongst discerning design enthusiasts from Tokyo to London for many years now. One of their best kitchen’s has to be the INO meulable. With this kitchen you get a fabulous splash of luxury with crystal encrusted handles on the streamlined units!

Wow: Japanese Kitchens From Toyo

Today’s post is all about a brilliant new kitchen available from Italian company Valcucine.

The Artemica Multiline Titanium kitchen requires the bare minimum of maintenance but incorporates maximum modern style in it’s design.

Although at first glance the Artemica Multiline may not scream ‘environmentally friendly’, it is in fact stuffed full of green credentials making it an ideal choice for home owners who have a green conscience.

The kitchen is constructed from recycled no-polluting components and uses energy efficient technology in it’s appliances so you get all the benefits of being eco-friendly but without losing out on a bit of style.

The Artemica Multiline is truly unique in it’s appearance but if you had to describe it’s aesthetics in one word I think most people would agree that it is industrial style.

Titanium is in fact used a lot in real functioning industrial settings because it weighs very little but is one of the strongest metals available.

As far as kitchens go this is a pretty nifty one because the fact that it is long lasting, heavy duty and durable means it will last a considerable amount of time plus the actual design of the kitchen is beautiful and full of clean lines and sharp shapes meaning that it will stay looking modern, trendy and chic for many many years to come.
