Designed by Studio FRST as a concept TV, 16943 is more about style, sleek lines and a futuristic appeal, rather than just plain technical aspects. Perfect to fit all needs without spoiling too much extra-space, 16943 is actually a crystal asymmetrical black picture put on a glass base. Supposedly offering a better and enhanced visual experience, it fills the screen horizontally while watching 16:9 videos or vertically on 4:3 films. Although it may prove to be completely impractical due to its non-rectangular nature of the glass, we’re certainly sold on that sculptural design – at least until the price tag is announced. 16943 by FRST: Bringing Visual Wizardry at Home

Parisian industrial designer Arnaud Lapierre is bringing about a whole new revolution in the way we perceive energy that surrounds us. His already famous Haptics design principles are now being applied to sound, to offer you MP3 speakers that are unlike anything else you have seen till now. While the first one is a beautiful pot-like speaker with an elastic membrane that can be stretched or compressed to expose the opening and control the volume, the second one allows you to pour water on its thin membrane which is then illuminated by an underneath light. And although it’s a unique presence, his haptic speakers are just a concept for now . A concept that we’d love to see materializing. [via FastCompany]

Haptic Speakers: Feel the Music Around, Literally

They are also the two with by far the most innovative solar technology. There’s probably some connection there…

For example here’s a very clever solar-centric home from Spain that not only has an entirely (485 square foot) solar roof that moves in relation to the sun all day to squeeze out every last possible electron from sunpower –but even the walls are solar power stations churning out electricity too.

I hope it doesn’t buzz inside like a transformer! I’m a huge fan of solar powered zero carbon dwellings, but even I think this is possibly going a bit far.

This house literally would be a power station.

“The house’s interior is a unique transportable module that includes all the technology needed for energy self-sufficiency, since not only is energy captured by the solar panel on the roof but also by vertical panels on the walls that also move in keeping with the Earth’s rotation.”

It will show here at this year’s  Solar Decathlon organized by the U.S. Department of Energy in October.  A solar city is constructed at the Washington Mall in October where all the solar houses competing are displayed. Each home is judged on 10 criteria including style, innovation, efficiency, lighting design, engineering, market viability, appliances and home entertainment.

In 2010 Madrid will host the first of these in Spain: the Solar Decathlon Europe.

Spanish All Solar House Churns Out Electricity

Open air Cinema is what we are talking about here!

Now there is a new package available to consumers that gives the buyer everything they need to screen a film in their back yard.

The company that make this great product have been around for a while and are simply called Open Air Cinema.

This year though, they are releasing their biggest screen yet onto the market. At 16ft by 9ft, the screen is big enough to make you feel like you’re really at the real thing. It retails for about $999 although smaller versions of the screen are considerably cheaper.

The Open Air Cinema screen is pretty unusual in some ways, for example, it is inflatable! The whole screen is filled with behemoth to keep it inflated.

If you live in the northern hemisphere then admittedly this may not strike you as being the prime time of year to buy outdoor entertainment but if you live in the southern hemisphere in say Australia then you still have many more months of sunshine and warm weather to enjoy. And for those folks living northern, don’t forget the sun will come back at some point!

The president of Open Air Cinema has great things to say about their new jumbo screen;

“The 16-foot screen is the largest screen available for backyard use on the market. This new size truly converts your backyard into a huge cinematic experience. With the included blower fan, it takes just a few seconds to inflate. And even though it is the biggest screen we recommend for home use, it is still easy to set up, use and take down.”

A True American Great Is Now Available For Your Home

Today’s post is all about a new product from Sky Factory called the ‘SkyV HD Skylight’. It’s a pretty exciting product so brace yourselves for…A digital skylight window!

Those out there who are more tech aware may already know that this same company, Sky Factory, have previously released a fake skylight which consisted of an LCD screen that showed a static image of bright blue sky. However, this new breed of the product has taken the whole idea one step further by displaying a moving sky instead.

The new SkyV HD is a virtual skylight consisting of three top quality HD LCD screens framed by timber to make it look exactly like a real skylight.

SkyV HD is uber-realistic and the scenes displayed include trees swaying in the breeze, moving clouds and birds flying through as well as the option to adjust the image to reflect the seasons.

Anyone who lives on the middle floors of an apartment block is guaranteed to be interested in this skylight because it gives them the chance to have some windows in the ceiling. They’ll be feeling like they are living in the penthouse apartment on the top floor straight away!

The SkyV HD Skylight is not available to buy in stores just yet but it will be debuting at trade shows around the world in the coming months and is expected to be rolled out for consumers to buy early in ’09.

Virtual Skylights From The Sky Factory

For music lovers and tech lovers alike, the eternal question has always been ” How can I play music around my entire house without my home turning into a pile of wires and ugly units?”

Well, it looks like their prayers have been answered in the form of 5th Corner’s new speaker systems named Stealth Acoustics. Every room is this post may look ordinary but they all have in fact got the Steal Acoustics system installed.

Forget ugly speakers and round mesh circles in the ceiling because as the name suggests this really is a stealth product. Designed deliberately so no one will even guess the room has a sound system, 5th Corner prides itself on discreet systems that won’t interfere with the design of a room and definitely won’t add any visual clutter.

The loudspeaker in the Stealth Acoustics product has a large rigid frame which is actually set into the wall and attached to the structure of the building. After this the edge of the speaker is plastered to give a seamless finish between itself and the plasterboard of the wall. Once this is done the face of the speaker is then painted in the same color as the rest of the wall and there you have it: A completely invisible sound system is born!

Today’s product is the Crosswater RIO Light Circular Shower Head. Sure, the company could have given it a catchier name but who needs catchy names when you’ve got a crazy gadget!

Available from thebigbathroomshop.com, this is what the retailer has to say about it:

“RIO, a brand new ultra thin shower head providing a spectrum of stunning colour effects with 96 LED lights programmable by a key pad.

The low consumption LED lamps create a column of water and light with a diameter of 400mm working perfectly with 3 bar pressure.”

This product is definitely pretty exciting but it doesn’t come cheap though. The price for the RIO at the moment is $4,938 but who knows maybe in time that price tag might go down.

This site Deltacalor, is making some interesting moves in the world of heating. All of its pieces have been designed not only to provide heat to your home, but also to add a pinch of style and a dash of sophistication to your bathroom.

The company says of its products: “innovation is expressed through ingenuity, design and technology made in Italy.”

This particular product called Stendy Electric is a stand-out item because of its dual purpose qualities. It’s a radiator that lays flat against the wall and acts as a heater to warm the whole room, but then you can pull out the rails at right angles and use it to dry clothes or have it as a heated towel rail. Lovely, how luxurious!
