Virtual Skylights From The Sky Factory

Today’s post is all about a new product from Sky Factory called the ‘SkyV HD Skylight’. It’s a pretty exciting product so brace yourselves for…A digital skylight window!
Those out there who are more tech aware may already know that this same company, Sky Factory, have previously released a fake skylight which consisted of an LCD screen that showed a static image of bright blue sky. However, this new breed of the product has taken the whole idea one step further by displaying a moving sky instead.
The new SkyV HD is a virtual skylight consisting of three top quality HD LCD screens framed by timber to make it look exactly like a real skylight.
SkyV HD is uber-realistic and the scenes displayed include trees swaying in the breeze, moving clouds and birds flying through as well as the option to adjust the image to reflect the seasons.

Anyone who lives on the middle floors of an apartment block is guaranteed to be interested in this skylight because it gives them the chance to have some windows in the ceiling. They’ll be feeling like they are living in the penthouse apartment on the top floor straight away!
The SkyV HD Skylight is not available to buy in stores just yet but it will be debuting at trade shows around the world in the coming months and is expected to be rolled out for consumers to buy early in ‘09.

Is the light admitted from the screens very artificial or have they managed to capture the ambiance of natural light?

Wow, pretty cool but, I’d imagine very expensive.

@ California- The makers of the product have tried their best to replicate natural light although I suppose there is only so much you can do with a HD LCD screen.
@Stefan- They haven’t been released for retail yet but I think you are right it will probably be pretty pricey.
Thanks for your comments!

Now that puts a whole new twist to the idea. I have never envisioned it in this context before. Bravo
